What's Growing on at the Garden - April & May 2026

Garden Production and Donations

We are excited to share with our community the wonderful spring the garden is having! The garden looks wonderful and is having a great production year.

The garden planted over 1500 onions in January and have harvested over 150 pounds of onions so far. This is an increase of 100 lbs from last year.

The real excitement will come in June when we harvest everything including potatoes, onions, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and eggplants.

Our total poundage as of May 19 was 785 lbs. We have produced 300 lbs more than last year at this same time. All produce is donated to the community with help from our partners at WestAid and Las Vegas Trail Rise Community Center.

Education and Events

We welcomed students from several public schools for field trips with support from Made Greene and Cook Children's

110 PreK students from FWISD’s CC Moss and Westcliff Elementary Schools came to the garden in May.

40 students from Alvarado ISD visited the garden in April.

IDEA Public School’s garden club visited the garden and helped prepare garden beds and plant okra!

We continue to host cohorts from Boulevard Heights Transition School and Jane Justin weekly.

Each student had a chance to harvest and taste garden-grown produce, observe tiny insect helpers in our compost, make garden friends, and help plant for the summer season!

The garden continues to host two work days for the community each week. These volunteer groups are the lifeblood of the garden. Among these groups, we had Higginbotham and Red Productions come out and clear weeds, remulch the garden, and plant for the summer.

Funding

The garden received $7500 in funding to support salaries for our garden managers from University Christian Church.
